How to run Codex with 百度千帆 ERNIE

Baidu Qianfan is Baidu Cloud's LLM platform serving the ERNIE 5 series over the v2 API. Qianfan provides an OpenAI Responses API endpoint, making it a Codex-engine option; it has no Anthropic-compatible endpoint yet.

Engine support (probe-verified, 2026-07-10)

Step 1 — Get a 百度千帆 ERNIE API key

Open the Baidu Cloud console → log in → “Security / API Key” → create (starts with bce-v3/) and copy.

Step 2 — Configure the Snail launcher (3 steps)

1. Download the launcher for Mac / Windows from justalittlesnail.ai;
2. Paste the API key on the 百度千帆 ERNIE card (the launcher validates connectivity immediately);
3. Pick a model and click Launch Codex — a dedicated terminal window opens.

Recommended models

Main: ernie-5.1 (complex tasks) · Fast: ernie-5.0 (subtasks / summaries). After saving the key, click “Refresh” on the card to pull the live model list.

FAQ

Why is Qianfan Codex-only?

Claude Code needs an Anthropic-compatible endpoint, which Qianfan doesn't offer yet; its OpenAI-compatible API (including /responses) works with Codex.
